It is based on the French format Des chiffres et des lettres while its structure is similar to the UK version of the show, Countdown. It began airing on 2 August 2010. On 22 June 2012 SBS announced on the official website its decision to "rest" the show, the final episode aired on 27 June 2012. The show has been replaced, at 6pm weeknights, by the UK series, Countdown.
Magic Numbers was a British television show in which celebrity contestants answer questions to generate a sequence of 6 numbers. Members of the public then call a Premium-rate telephone number if their home or mobile phone numbers contains two or more of these digits. Callers are entered into a prize draw to win the chance of competing for a prize of up to £350,000. The show was created by CPL Productions and Paul Brassey and commissioned by John Kaye Cooper at ITV. The show is very similar to a previous ITV game show, Talking Telephone Numbers, the key difference being that viewers of Magic Numbers can call in if two of the numbers match their phone number, rather than five as on the previous show. This was a technique employed by ITV to generate more calls, and hence higher revenues from the show. Magic Numbers was hosted by Stephen Mulhern when it aired for one series of seven episodes in 2010.
Lucky Numbers was a Bingo-based game show and revival of the earlier series Bob's Full House that aired on the ITV network from 9 January 1995 until 27 June 1997. Hosted by Shane Richie, the series was produced by Granada Television. The show was one of the first UK game shows which allowed viewers to take part at home and win. The show was sponsored by The Sun newspaper, and each week the viewer was supplied with a game-card. Talking Telephone Numbers was a British game show that was produced by Celador and Carlton Television and aired on ITV from 28 February 1994 to 22 December 1997, hosted by Phillip Schofield and Emma Forbes, then later Claudia Winkleman, with Cash Peters appearing in filmed inserts. The programme featured five games, each designed to generate a number. These numbers were combined towards the end of the programme to form a five-digit code. Viewers with telephone numbers where the last 5 digits matched the code could then phone in to try to win a cash prize.
